“By knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many.”
(The words of Yah: Isa 53:11)
An exalted approach to diet requires that we rewire our thinking about food and our relationship to it. Many simply see food as a fuel for their bodies so that they can simply go about their daily lives. While there is truth to this; true food, according to our Creator’s design, is so much more than this.
Most of the items that people consume today are far removed from the original design of the Creator; having been over-farmed through the centuries, hybridized and / or manipulated in some form or another by mankind. Most “foods” in the grocery store fall under this description; the worst of them having been produced through the modernized process of genetic modification; where the internal genetic structure is altered within a laboratory environment; and the resulting seeds are patented by global industrial food and chemical, corporate giants.
So, the question is: how can we access foods that are closer to God’s design? Is it even possible today? Thankfully the answer is YES! Many, many edible plants growing all over the world have been relatively untouched by large scale farming methods; still allowing the plants to thrive according to the original balance and design with which they were created. This is a tremendous blessing for us; a wonderful gift from the Creator, as these plants possess within them the wisdom and fingerprint of the Creator. More and more people are awakening to the fact that these special plants have an amazing ability to produce vibrant health and vitality within the human frame in our days of mortality.
Speaking from personal experience (and from having sought the expertise of many specialists in the field of nutrition and herbalism); I have come to realize that many plants that we find still growing all over the globe have innate abilities to provide intelligent information to our bodies when we consume them. This not only has the capability of producing bodily strength and health, but of also raising our ability to think and reason by contributing to brain health. Prized superfoods and superherbs can sharpen our thoughts and even influence our emotional and psychological states. All foods influence our physiology and our “state” of being; sometimes for good and sometimes for evil. Through our food choices, we exercise our free will to choose to bring either good or evil into our lives; and the wise people of the Creator will position themselves “to choose the good and refuse the evil” in all areas of their life (Isa 7:15). The more wisdom we have on any topic, the better we will set ourselves up to make wise choices and to live in success.
“Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
She will place on your head an ornament of grace;
A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”
(Prov 4: 5-9)
The Garden of Eden was a place of good; and a place of relationship with the Creator. In this context, life was lived in harmony with the creation; while eating of the foods that the Creator made in their very good, balanced and perfect state. The amazing thing is: as we begin to seek out foods that are as close to God’s design, as found in the garden as possible, it would seem that we position ourselves to connect in a more intimate way with the Creator Who made them. Like all things, the further we move away from God’s design, wisdom and intentions, the further we stray from Him. The more we begin to trust in His design, wisdom and intentions, the closer we cling to Him and His ways. It was His creative design at the beginning that was called “very good”. As His very good works have been corrupted, we will find more and more evil and decay.
Perhaps one of the questions that may be arising in your mind is: How does this relate to our living according to the instructions and commandments of the Creator? How do God’s promises of health as a result of our obedience to His ways relate to our finding health in body and mind through nutrition? This of course is a complex question, but I will suggest a short answer to this concern.
Through Your commandments… I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
(Ps 119: 98-100)
I believe that all of us who are seeking the True Creator, of course, want to put our complete trust in Him – the question is, what does this mean practically in our lives? Many of us have grown up with various religiously programmed ideas, that seem to be spiritually true, but are in fact ideas that have been formed through the thoughts of men, and not the exalted thoughts of the Creator.
Though I also still have subconscious programming to overcome in my own life, my conscious conviction is that the power of God’s instructions free us up to be open to the joy of living wisely in all areas of our lives; to seek after good and to grow to our highest potential – enjoying the pure joys of learning, developing, growing and exercising wise practices in our lives. Essentially the simplicity of God’s True Instruction (Heb. “Torah”) with nothing added, will remove the stumbling blocks that get in the way of our development and growth, and the ability to make good, wise choices in our lives. In reality, it is the religious additions to God’s original instructions that create fear; and cause us to feel worried and filled with trepidation about moving forward in a healthy way, and doing “good” in our lives.
As His people, we need to no longer neglect the things that He has designed and made; and choose the things in our world that were created by His hand. In whatever ways we have manipulated things to our own detriment, outside of approaching the creation with wisdom and understanding; we need to seek restoration and bring renewed harmony with the help of our Creator.
In so doing, we will step into amazing the amazing blessing and pleasure of our Creator. For in His presence and at His right hand are the qualities of unending joy and pleasures forever more. Whatever His hands have done is breathtaking in its profound complexity and dynamic vitality. His design is something we can be filled with awe over; and with sincerity in our hearts we can sing out with joy, the praises of all that He is.
“In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Eating the foods that He has designed will not in and of itself connect us with the Creator of the Universe; but are a tool that we can use to step out of the bondage of ill health, freeing us up to better appreciate and trust His perfect design and His love for us.
