It has been said that the woman in Proverbs 31 is a rebel – standing in opposition to the world’s view of womanhood. What I am going to suggest is that she is so much more than that. From my perspective, the concept of rebelling against the world is not at all a high enough way to perceive the amazing woman in Proverbs 31 – the woman so many of us desire to be. She is described as being of worth “far above” rubies. Rubies are something that are highly valued in the world we live in – and she is far above it. She employs such a high level of queenly excellence and beautiful characteristics, that describing her as a rebel simply does not do her justice. I would argue that she simply does not spend her energy seeking to “rebel” against the world, she is walking and living and thinking and speaking in such a way that completely overrides the world’s principles.
The true Israel of God’s heart – one that we have really yet to see in any fullness – is a people who walk as Royalty – Princes (Isra) with their God (El). Not an oppressive royalty of mankind – but a royalty of freedom and deliverance after the manner of the God of Heaven whose mercy endures forever and who is a God of mercy, deliverance, justice and freedom. The things we have never seen fully realized in a nation. We see in Israel that the 12 tribes are quite literally 12 sceptres (the word for “tribe” in Hebrew IS literally sceptre). Twelve royal groups of people that make up a beautiful, priceless, shining and royal nation. One of justice and mercy. One that has never been seen before.
This concept of riding high above the earth is a beautiful Scriptural theme. Amazingly, the God of heaven is described as doing just that – and He brings His people with Him in His high soaring. There are some amazingly beautiful verses that describe this – I just have to quote several of them here. I hope you may take a few moments to meditate on these verses (Selah!)
Of Yah – Soaring High Above:
Let God arise…Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
Extol Him who rides on the clouds,
By His name YAH,
And rejoice before Him. (Ps 68:1,4)
Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
Oh, sing praises to Yah, Selah
33 To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.
35 O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.
Blessed be God! (Ps 68:32-35)
Bless Yah, O my soul!
O Yah my God, You are very great:
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain…
Who makes the clouds His chariot,
Who walks on the wings of the wind (Ps 104: 1-3)
Yah is slow to anger and great in power… In whirlwind and storm is His way,
And clouds are the dust beneath His feet. (Nah 1:3)
As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Yah. (Ezek 1: 28)
“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,
Who rides the heavens to help you,
And in His excellency on the clouds.
27 The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms.” (De 33:26-27)
Of Us Soaring With Our God:
“[Yah found Israel] in a desert land
And in the wasteland…
He encircled him, He instructed him,
He kept him as the apple of His eye.
11 As an eagle stirs up its nest,
Hovers over its young,
He spreads out His wings, taking them up,
Carrying them on His wings,
12 Yah alone led him,
And there was no foreign god with him.
13 “He made him ride in the heights of the earth,
That he might eat the produce of the fields;
He made him draw honey from the rock,
And oil from the flinty rock.” (De 32:10-13)
“You shall delight yourself in Yah;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of YHVH has spoken.” (Isa 58:14)
May all of this be spoken of us! May we walk as royalty – as Kings and Queens with our God. May we be the beautiful apple of the Father’s eye. May we soar as beautiful eagles above all of the world’s problems and lift others to do the same.
