The apparent strength of every Goliath is also their weak spot.
To control and manipulate people, the giants of the world rely on the ignorance of the masses; a lack of knowledge. While this has been a common and successful tactic over the millennia; the weakness of this “stronghold” is that the spreading of knowledge therefore beats Goliath. They are then left standing without a single defense.
When David faces Goliath as recorded in 1 Sam 17; he does not use the weapons of his warfare. He uses a rock and a sling; he employs the weaponry of the words of his mouth, with confidence and fearlessness. While facing Goliath, David opens his mouth and declares the truth of the matter:
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the YHVH of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day YHVH will deliver you into my hand… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that YHVH does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the YHVH’s, and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Sam 17)
We just need to open our mouths and spread knowledge and truth and let that rock fly. If we begin to spread knowledge we can be confident of victory. We can employ the weapon of our warfare as part of the army of YHVH, given to us by Him: information, truth, ideas, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, education.
In Daniel chapter 2, we see the symbolism of a stone that hits the image of the empires of men, crushes them and then grinds them into a powder that the wind drives away until there is no trace left. That stone is True Israel (the Kingdom of YHVH) who strikes the image with knowledge, education and truth in the face of every kind of evil. The image does not stand a chance.
We cannot win a battle by spreading fear. We win through wisdom and its proclamation.
“Wisdom is calling! Understanding is raising her voice! On the heights along the road, where the paths meet, she is standing; by the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: People, I am calling you, raising my voice to all mankind…My mouth says what is true, because my lips detest evil…The fear of YHVH is hatred of evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil ways and duplicitious speech.” (Prov 8)
The people of YHVH win by blowing the Shofar; by making a sound in the earth; by lifting up their voices to be heard; by being wisdom – and going wherever we can be heard.
The people of Israel caused the walls of Jericho to fall down to the ground – with the sound of the shofar and with the shout of the people. The strongholds of Jericho had no chance against the sounding of knowledge and truth and its declaration (in symbol).
The army of Gideon won the battle against their oppressors with apparently “impossible odds”. Why? Because of the weapons they employed at the leadership of the God of Israel:
- The shofar and their voices – In symbol the proclamation of knowledge with the intention of being heard.
- The torches – the light of illumination brought forth in the presence of their enemies; the shedding of light in dark places.
- Confidence in victory – All who were afraid to fight were sent home.
- Discernment and the ability to receive good and refuse evil – These warriors were the men who raised the water into their hands before consuming it.
We need to spread knowledge in opposition to all evil.
Knowledge that can be heard.
Knowledge that can educate, be understood and received.
We need to shed light and speak truth in opposition to all error. We need to spread education, making the sound clear, so as to be not misunderstood. All with the leadership of Yah, who will give wisdom and understanding to those who truly want it and who seek it.
We need to be strong and very courageous – to be not dismayed at the giants of the world.
“YHVH gives wisdom; out of His mouth
comes wisdom and understanding.”
“And the spirit of YHVH shall rest upon him (the branch – the people),
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YHVH.”
“God has gone up with a shout,
YHVH with the sound of a shofar.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.”
(Psalm 47: 5-7)
